Before us are three copies of headphones. The first copy is fully functional and has not been used, but is not equipped with a TRS connector (or, as they say, a mini-jack connector) and is an accessory for a headset with a built-in microphone. The headphones located in the middle have a broken wire at the input of the connector, in the latter there is a problem with the speakers, but the cord is working, and the “new” headphones will be assembled on the basis of this cord.

Using a thin and fairly sharp knife, we open the headphone housings.Since in the described case, in addition to the faulty speakers, the cover of one of the headphone housings is missing, the housings themselves will have to be replaced.

We cut off the faulty speakers and remove the insulation from the wires, leaving bare ends about a centimeter long. We clean and tin the wire cores (the length of the tinned section can be within 2-3 mm). Using the tester, we again make sure that the cord is in good condition and find out which wire to solder the left and which the right speaker (if there are corresponding markings on the headphone cases). The common (ground) wire of both channels is connected to a cylindrical contact located directly at the base of the connector body, the “+” of the right channel is connected to the middle contact, and the “+” of the left channel is to the end contact.

When selecting speakers from several headphones, you need to keep in mind that the resistance of their coils must be the same, otherwise you will experience discomfort due to different channel volumes and differences in frequency characteristics. This parameter can range from one and a half dozen to 50-60 Ohms - the resistance of the speakers shown in the photo, for example, is 41 Ohms.

We put the speaker housings on the wires. To prevent wire breaks when using headphones, we fix the wires in the housings with knots.

Solder the wires to the speakers. The polarity of connecting the wires does not matter much, but the phasing must be observed, i.e. The ground and signal wires on both speakers must be soldered the same way. Failure to comply with this condition will lead to the fact that one speaker will “beat” forward, and the second – back, this will not have the best effect on the sound quality.

We close the headphone cases and check the quality of their work.
Of course, there are times when purchasing new headphones is inevitable, but sometimes such repairs are justified - for example, you really like the housings of broken headphones or their excellent (compared to others) sound...
